Meet Dr. Robert Luby, MD, an experienced thought leader and innovator in medical education for over three decades. As a director of medical education at IFM, Robert is a leader in the development of functional medicine clinical, educational, and research standards, the functional medicine clinical competencies for certification, and the transformation of IFM’s curriculum. He creates and executes on the development and delivery of innovative clinical training programs in formats ranging from in-person conferences to remote, livestreamed events to online, on-demand platforms. 

Prior to joining IFM in 2015, he spent 16 years in an academic family medicine residency program as the director of curriculum and faculty development. He has practiced as a board-certified family physician serving patients in community health centers, successfully applying the functional medicine model in marginalized communities and under-resourced settings, and now applies those skills to enable large healthcare systems and institutions to do the same. Past and current teaching affiliations include Harvard, UMass, Tufts, Boston U, the University of Vermont, and the University of Wisconsin medical schools, residency, and fellowship programs. 

Outside of IFM, Robert might be found contemplating the nature of philosophy, the philosophy of poetry, and the poetry of nature, all of which inform his versatile, engaging, and creative approach to professional medical education.
