Functional medicine can change your practice and make a bigger difference in your patients’ lives. This is how medicine should be practiced: remembering there is a person in front of us, not just a patient.”
Supporting Access to Functional Medicine Education for Military Communities
Creating more opportunities for comprehensive and personalized care for military personnel, veterans, and their communities is a priority for IFM, as functional medicine is uniquely positioned to address the complex and multidisciplinary needs of this population. Military service members and veterans have a unique set of healthcare needs
The individualized, patient-centered, evidence-based approach that underlies the functional medicine model also closely aligns with the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA’s) Whole Health approach to veteran healthcare. IFM’s medical education courses provide the latest knowledge in nutrition, supplementation, behavior change, and lifestyle modifications to help treat a wide array of conditions afflicting the military communities.
Studies suggest that military service members and veterans experience mental health disorders, substance use disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and traumatic brain injury at disproportionate rates compared to their civilian counterparts. Functional medicine recognizes the power and impact of the emotional, mental, and spiritual life on physical health and evaluates each component to bring the whole body into balance.
Working closely with the VHA's Whole Health approach, we strive to meet each patient where they are in their health journey and provide actionable, effective interventions tailored to their unique stories and lifestyle.
