Bill Barley, MD
Dr. Barley completed his undergraduate work at UCLA with a degree in psycho-biology, then graduated from UCSD School of Medicine with his Doctorate of Medicine. He finished his residency at the UC Davis-affiliated family practice residency program in Merced, California. During residency, he met his future wife, Katharina Scharruhn, MD. They left residency, moved to Placerville, California, and opened their family practice office in 1993.
Dr. Barley is board-certified by the American Academy of Family Medicine and provides routine traditional outpatient medical care including urgent care, wellness care, screening, and healthcare maintenance.
Dr. Barley is also certified by The Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM) and offers many different services, testing, and protocols to support and empower his patients’ self-care. Besides actively practicing Functional Medicine, he also teaches. Since 1996, he has been a recognized faculty member at the Family Medicine Residency program at Methodist Hospital of Sacramento. And since 2016, he has been an educator at IFM. At IFM, he has been a leading member of the Practice Implementation team and is a frequent facilitator at the Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice (AFMCP) programs.
When not playing tennis and golf or walking his dogs with Dr Scharruhn, Dr. Barley looks forward to helping his patients using the best of traditional medicine and Functional Medicine.
