With chronic disease on the rise and life expectancy on the decline in the United States, healthcare faces an urgent need for more accessible, root-cause care, yet fewer clinicians are entering the field, and many are burning out.
IFM addresses these challenges by providing accessible, comprehensive educational programs that reinvigorate practitioners and inspire them to enhance patient care. Our work also extends to improving access to functional medicine for patients, bridging critical healthcare gaps and fostering a collaborative practitioner-patient relationship. Patients become integral participants in their care.
Making Our Training Accessible
To lower the barriers of access to functional medicine education, IFM ensures that our training is accessible, understandable, and applicable for all learners by:
- Meeting learner needs around the world through innovative delivery format options with in-person conferences, livestream broadcasts, cohort courses, and online, on-demand programs.
- Delivering content that is clinically understandable and applicable the next day to the variety of settings in which clinicians practice.
- Offering a variety of financial models and payment plan options through scholarships, tuition discounts, organizational memberships, and more.

Creating Opportunities for Patient Care
Increasing the number of IFM-trained clinicians increases the opportunities for patients to experience the impact of functional medicine. We partner with a variety of healthcare organizations, from private practices to academic institutions and large health systems, to ensure that functional medicine trained–clinicians are available at every level of care.
Patients can find IFM-trained functional medicine clinicians using IFM’s Find a Practitioner tool. This database is the largest referral network of functional medicine providers trained through ACCME-accredited functional medicine education.
We incorporate the social determinants of health into our education to ensure that our clinicians can meet patients where they are in their health journey with appropriate and cost-effective interventions that honor and prioritize the therapeutic approaches that matter to them most.
